Charity founders, Martha and David Holman are very pleased that their recent fundraising event at the Melville Theatre in Abergavenny was such a great success. The evening was organised to raise money to be able to ship the books collected and a 17- seater mini- bus to their community centre library in Domboshawa, Zimbabwe. Martha commented, ‘We are delighted to say that we have raised £1,100 which is a fantastic effort. David and I would like to thank everyone involved who supported us to achieve this great result.’

The event took place on Saturday 30th November and featured several local musicians who gave their time to perform. First act on were the vibrant acapella sounds of Zim Voices who gave a joyful display of traditional Zimbabwean songs. Next up, Tanaka Holman gave her first public performance, singing the Beatles classic, Golden Slumbers. David then sang a couple of self -penned tunes accompanied by James Davies, followed by the return of Zim Voices for their anthem, Torara Ma Sei, Love Zimbabwe.

They were followed by the wonderful harmonies of the Hollywells comprising Sally Parker, Mari Davies, Rosie and Rachel Cribb and Jo Thomas. This was another debut public performance and was ecstatically received by the sell out audience. Last but definitely not least was the soulful sounds of Tobias Robertson, an ex X factor finalist who entranced the crowd with his mellow vocals and guitar. All of this would not have been possible without the help of Rob Gorman who supplied and set up the P.A. system.

As well as great music, there was a fabulous spread of food. Martha and David would like to thank Jo Taylor for organising the generous donations from Greggs, The Angel Hotel and Pizzorante. More food came from Waitrose thanks to Neil from Abergavenny Methodist Church as well as his kind donation of mulled wine. However, the piece de resistance was the spectacular Love Zimbabwe cake baked and hand painted by the indefatigable Kathy Batchelor!

As usual, these events do not run themselves, and many thanks also go to Penny Simcock from the Melville for her help in setting everything up. Thanks must also go to Del Edwards who regularly photographs Love Zimbabwe and local events.

The bar was very competently run by Al and Selena Wilson and the door by Mary Waiklin. Wine was generously donated by Marion Harvey MBE.

The couple were delighted that so many people came and supported this fundraising event and would like to thank everyone who gave their time to help and attend the evening.
