November 2019 was a very busy month for both Martha, Tanaka and I.
Two great fundraising events took place, each with a different twist. Both were organised by the indefatigable Kathy Batchelor, a new volunteer recruit for the charity and for the Methodist Church!
The first was on November 17th and consisted of a ‘Middle Eastern banquet’ cooked and devised by Kathy, and kindly hosted by Ed and Liz Lloyd.
The five- course meal was accompanied by music from myself on guitar and, once again Kathy Batchelor on flute. There were also some traditional African songs from Martha and Zim Voices.
A fabulous evening was had by all 20 attendees and saw £353 collected for the charity.
On the 30th November, an amazing time was had by fifty revellers at the ‘Love Swing Babwe’ dance event at the Hen & Chickens pub in Abergavenny, who kindly provided a free room for the event.
As before, Kathy organised this wonderful evening which featured the 40’s/50’s swing band, The Numbers Racket. There was also a very productive auction with fierce bidding for some great prizes hosted by me and AM for Monmouthshire, Nick Ramsay. We would like to thank the following for the donations – The Angel Hotel, The Rotary Club of Abergavenny, Regency 59, Pizzorante, Phil Mungeam, Lucie Parkin from the Abergavenny Writing Festival, Shackletons, Hilary from the Methodist Church, Coco Blush, Tools for self reliance, Rob Lloyd, The Chapel Restaurant, The Marches and Nick Ramsay AM. Thanks also go to Rob Gorman for supplying lighting.
The evening raised £1,000 for the charity and a fantastic time was had by all.
Meanwhile, we are selling our wonderful Zimbabwean arts and crafts in All Saints in Hereford from 19th Dec. all the wat through to the 12th. Jan. with a couple of days off in between for good behaviour!
We wish everyone at the Church a very merry Christmas.
